Aaron Cameron predicts Ryan Wood could emerge as a championship contender
Cameron went head-to-head with Kiwi in back end of 2023 Dunlop Super2 Series
Wood has standout Super2 records at two of the three Finals venues
Blanchard Racing Team rookie Aaron Cameron has predicted former Super2 rival Ryan Wood to be a bolter in the new-for-2025 Finals series on the latest episode of Supercars' Drivers Only podcast.
The 21-year-old Kiwi claimed his maiden Supercars pole position and race win last Saturday in Perth, having claimed a breakthrough podium on home soil in Taupō earlier in the season.
Wood looked on course to comfortably leave the weekend inside the all-important top 10 before his controversial collision with James Golding in the dying laps of Race 16.
Remarkably, having entered the weekend 10th in points, Wood remains 10th following the Bosch Power Tools Perth Super 440, just 27 points ahead of Golding in 11th.
However, whilst many are tipping Wood to be a presence in The Finals come season's end, Cameron is tipping Wood could make a run at the championship over the Gold Coast, Sandown, and Adelaide events.
Responding to listener questions, when asked who he thought could be a surprise driver in The Finals, Cameron quickly responded: "I think Woody, Woody I think will surprise some people."
"I know he had a really good weekend [in Perth], but I think he doesn't mind having a go.
"I don't know if he pissed off you guys last year, but in Super2 the year before, he will send it and doesn't care, well he cares about crashing out, but in The Finals you just have to execute, and get it up the inside if you have to and take no prisoners.
"I think he will do that, and especially once we get to some street circuits, I think he will be quite good, and I also think the Fords are quite good on street circuits towards the end of the year."
Wood burst onto the scene in the 2023 Dunlop Super2 Series, and quickly garnered a reputation as a no holds barred racer, claiming five wins in 12 starts to finish third in that year's title race before securing a main game promotion for 2024.
Wood stunned with his aggressive driving at Sandown on route to a win and a third, and dominated that year's Adelaide finale by claiming both pole positions and race wins.
The Kiwi also made Sunday's Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout at last year's Gold Coast 500, before being fed into the wall in an opening lap pile-up in that afternoon's race.
The 2025 Repco Supercars Championship continues at the betr Darwin Triple Crown from June 20-22. Tickets for the event are on sale now.
