Porsche junior signs Super2 Eggleston deal

Porsche junior Cooper Murray is the latest young driver to turn to Super2, signing with Eggleston Motorsport.

Murray, 21, will race a Triple Eight-built ZB Commodore in the 2023 Dunlop Super2 Series.

The Victorian is the latest in a line of junior drivers to have been picked up by the title-winning Eggleston team.

Murray is the youngest race and round winner in Porsche Carrera Cup Australia history.

The 2023 season will mark a crucial stepping stone in Murray’s quest to become a Supercar driver.

Between 2010 and 2015, Murray won six straight state karting titles before progressing to Formula Ford.

He 2018, he shifted to Porsches, and finished second in the GT3 Cup Challenge.

Murray stepped up to Carrera Cup in 2019 and found success with a mid-season move to McElrea Racing.

He finished second overall in 2021, won the Michelin Junior Championship and represented Australia at the Global Shootout.

Also in 2021, Murray made his racing debut in Europe in the Carrera Cup France Championship finale.

Murray will be joined by 2022 Super3 title contender Kai Allen in a strong Eggleston line-up.

“I’m honoured to be joining Eggleston Motorsport next year in the Super 2 championship,” Murray said.

“It’s going to be an exciting year in Super 2 with the ZBs and Mustangs being introduced to the category.

"I want to be in Supercars. And this is the next step of achieving that.

"Ben and Rachael [Eggleston] have helped many young drivers like Brodie Kostecki and Will Brown achieve that.

"I’m looking forward to working with the experienced team and putting in the work to get aquatinted with the cars and team.”

Team co-owner and Team Manager Rachael Eggleston was excited to secure Murray’s services.

"Cooper is a proven race winner, his determination and speed is obvious,” she said.

“We have no doubt he is going to grab this opportunity with both hands to make sure he is on the pace early in the season.

"We have a history of bringing young talent into the sport and being a big part of their journey to get to them to their ultimate goal of being a main series driver.

"We love nothing more than meeting drivers who share the same passion and drive that we do.

"Cooper was a stand out in a Porsche in recent years, and we are confident his ability will translate well to a Supercar.

“Together with our experience we are quite sure he will make an impact early in the season."

The 2023 Super2 Series will commence in Newcastle on March 10-12.
