Matt Stone Racing’s Todd Hazelwood has secured his third Dunlop Super2 Series win of the season by dominating Saturday’s race at the Watpac Townsville 400.
Hazelwood grabbed the lead off the line and was unchallenged on his way to victory ahead of Paul Dumbrell and Garry Rogers Motorsport driver Richard Muscat.
The GRM racer made the most impressive start, jumping from P6 on the grid to second before relinquishing the position to Dumbrell on lap 11.
Garry Jacobson and Jack Le Brocq finished fourth and fifth after Anton De Pasquale dropped two spots on lap 18 following a lock-up.
Macauley Jones and Kurt Kostecki charged through the field to finish seventh and eighth ahead of Jack Perkins.
Pole-sitter Shae Davies dropped to P3 on the first lap and kissed the fence on lap 3 before his slow drop down the order.
The Safety Car was brought out on lap 5 after Josh Kean spun at the exit on the final turn when he was pushed wide by his rivals.
Kean then clipped Andrew Jones who was also hit by Bryce Fullwood.
Mason Barbera dropped down the order after contact with Renee Gracie who then made contact with Fullwood.
The race was shortened by one lap after the Safety Car period.
