Dick Johnson Racing has announced it has secured a second Racing Entitlements Contract (REC) for the 2014 season.
The news ensures a bright future for DJR and comes shortly after esteemed engineer Campbell Little officially joining the team as sporting director.
Having operated Dean Fiore’s TripleF Racing Entitlement for the last two seasons, DJR was in the market to purchase a licence rather than enter into a new lease or umbrella arrangement.
DJR management was able to review a number of options, finally opting to purchase the Paul Morris/Nemo Racing REC.
This REC had been used by Tekno Autosports, however a purchase option was not taken up, paving the way for negotiations between DJR and Morris.
The decision to purchase was spearheaded by long time DJR business partner Steve Brabeck, managing director of Crimsafe.
Johnson and Brabeck have a long relationship and together with business strategist Dr Ryan Story have worked on the re-emergence of DJR to its former glory albeit in a behind the scenes approach.
Johnson said he had for years been looking to rebuild the team back to its former strength.
“From the end of the 2010 season I was aiming to regain control of our own destiny,” the team boss and racing legend said.
“Steve and Ryan have been instrumental in the business going from strength to strength, particularly this year, and I am very grateful that Steve has been able to broker the deal with Paul Morris.
“This is another key step to delivering the success I know this team is capable of.”
Brabeck was also positive about the news.
“It is a great move for us,” he said.
“I have the absolute interests of DJR at heart and by focusing on this strategy, we really move into 2014 in a strong and viable manner. We are indeed very grateful to Paul, who ensured that the transaction was smooth and met V8 Supercars criteria.”
DJR will finish the 2013 Championship at the Sydney NRMA Motoring & Services 500 this weekend, hoping to capitalise on the excellent recent form of current drivers Chaz Mostert and Tim Blanchard. Mostert will next year shift to replace Will Davison at Ford Performance Racing.
