Ryan impressed by improved Erebus stops

Erebus Motorsport boss Barry Ryan is impressed by his team’s rapid improvement in pit lane.

Errors in pit lane have left Erebus wanting in the last 18 months, most recently at Winton.

A clutch drama led to a slow stop for Will Brown, who also lost a potential win in Sydney last year after a bungled stop.

Come Darwin, and Erebus mechanics were on fire in the pits.

Erebus stops were second and first quickest in Races 16 and 17 respectively.

While race results went begging, Ryan was pleased with his team’s turnaround in the lane.

“We ticked some boxes, especially with pit stops,” he told Supercars’ Cool Down Lap podcast.

“We were [second] fastest yesterday, and second fastest in the two races today.

“Our pit stops are now alright, but like I’ve said all along, we’ve got to get all the ingredients right.”

Darwin was an otherwise difficult weekend for the team, with its top five record coming to an end.

Will Brown suffered a Saturday DNF and 20th in Race 17 to finish the weekend with seventh.

Brodie Kostecki recorded finishes of 10th, 16th and 24th, but retained his top 10 points position.

It ensured Erebus’ streak of top fives from each round since Bathurst last year came to an end.

Both drivers lamented a lack a qualifying pace, something Ryan acknowledged hampered their race efforts.

“We didn’t quite have the set-up this weekend,” he continued.

“Drivers made a few errors, but that’s what happens when you qualify back there.

“Overall, it was a building weekend."
