If WAU star Chaz Mostert is a podium regular in 2024, he could hit a century of top three finishes

  • Only seven drivers have scored 100 or more Supercars podiums

  • Jamie Whincup leads the way with a record 238 podiums

Chaz Mostert has been tipped by many as a championship contender in 2024, and should it eventuate, he could join a very exclusive club.

The Walkinshaw Andretti United driver enters the new season with a new teammate in Ryan Wood, and a solid run to fourth overall in 2023.

For the first time in his Supercars career, Mostert went without a win or a pole in a season. However, amid a topsy turvy season between the two different cars, he still managed impressive consistency.

The 31-year-old recorded six podiums in his 21 top 10 finishes, from 28 starts. If Mostert is a podium regular in 2024, he could hit a century of top three finishes.

The newly-minted Barry Sheene Medallist enters 2024 on 87 podiums, just 13 shy of a century of top three finishes, and has 24 races in the new season to chase the milestone.

Mostert's first podium was also his first win, as a 21-year-old rookie at Queensland Raceway for Dick Johnson Racing in 2013. He added a second at Winton, before scoring 51 podiums for Ford Performance Racing/Tickford Racing between 2014 and 2019. In four seasons with WAU, he has 34 podiums.

Only seven drivers in the 64-year history of the championship have scored 100 or more podium finishes, with Garth Tander the most recent to hit the mark with his 2022 Bathurst win.

Jamie Whincup leads the way with 238 podium finishes, and is so far the only driver to breach the 200 mark. Whincup scored his 238th with victory in last year's Sandown 500.

Podiums have been recognised as top three finishers in races since 2009. Between 1960 and 2008, podiums were recognised for the top three drivers from each round. Whincup and Craig Lowndes have 267 and 265 top three finishes respectively.

Shane van Gisbergen, who will commence his NASCAR journey in 2024, moved past Lowndes into second early in the 2023 season.

Three-time champion van Gisbergen’s second place finish in the third Albert Park race pushed the Kiwi to 170 podiums, past the 169 recorded by Lowndes, who retired from full-time racing in 2018.

Mark Winterbottom is fourth all-time with 118 podiums, and is the only driver on the 2024 grid to have scored 100 or more. The 2015 champion claimed his 118th podium with victory in Darwin last June, which was his first trophy since 2018.

Behind Winterbottom is three-time champion and current IndyCar star Scott McLaughlin, who record 106 podiums between 2013 and 2020. In four years with DJR Team Penske, McLaughlin scored 80 of his 106 podiums.

Shell V-Power Racing Team veteran Will Davison is an outside chance of hitting 100 in 2024, with the two-time Bathurst winner currently on 79 podiums.

The 2024 Repco Supercars Championship will commence at the Thrifty Bathurst 500 on February 23-25. Tickets for the event are on sale now.
