Matt Naulty revved up for Supercars broadcast commentary debut
Veteran commentator to call first broadcast Supercars session at The Bend
Naulty recently called Super2 action at Queensland Raceway
Matt Naulty is excited make a “special” main game commentary debut at the upcoming AirTouch 500 at The Bend.
Naulty is regarded amongst the most entertaining motorsport commentators in the country, and recently called the Super2 action at Queensland Raceway.
He has lended his voice to motorsport action for two decades, and has led support category and trackside calls for Supercars in recent years.
Now, the proud South Australian will get a shot at calling Repco Supercars Championship action at a circuit close to home.
"I've been calling now with Supercars for 12 years, but I've been calling since 2001, and it was always the goal to get to the top level,” Naulty told Supercars.com.
"I was under no illusions that it wasn’t going to be easy, but to get an opportunity and particularly to do it at The Bend is pretty special.
“To have a track 15 minutes from home, and to do it as a 500km endurance race for the first time is awesome. If it was going to be here or Adelaide, it would've been great. But to do it in your own town, that's cool.
"I was hopeful I'd get something at some point, but for it to happen this quick, is amazing. Even getting the Super2 gig at QR was amazing. I did the track stuff for years for Super2, but to lead call was massive.
"I was happy in that world, and I still am happy to be in that world, but to do it at the top level and call amongst your heroes growing up, is even better."
Naulty’s debut will come in a dedicated additional driver session at The Bend, with co-drivers to take centre stage at The Bend Motorsport Park.
Having called several drivers’ pathways to the main game through the years, Naulty was excited to add his experience and expertise to the overall Ryco Enduro Cup story.
“Because it's a co-driver session as well, a lot of these drivers, I’ve worked with or commentated on for the last handful of years,” Naulty said.
"I've got a fairly good relationship with a lot of them. There's still a lot of good guys that have been around for a long time in it too, so it's a good mixture this year.
"There’s a good balance of co-drivers, be it rookies and those with heavy experience.”
Live coverage of the AirTouch 500 at The Bend commences on Fox Sports 506 and Kayo Sports on Friday September 12.
