Gold Coast 500 track build begins
Work has begun today on the track build for next month’s Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500.
The mammoth construction begins just 39 days ahead of Supercars’ biggest party on the streets of Surfers Paradise. Tickets are on sale now.
This year marks the 26th running of the Surfers Paradise street event and the first since 2019.
Crews of contractors have begun setting up the 2.96km circuit, including 6km of concrete barriers and fencing.
Locals will start seeing the emergence of pit lane along the Gold Coast Highway in the coming weeks along with corporate and grandstand facilities.
The start of work this morning will see the installation of barriers and debris fencing along the Gold Coast Highway and Surfers Paradise Boulevard.
Event Manager Matthew Ramsden was on the ground to oversee this week’s initial stages of the track build and was joined by Erebus Motorsport’s Will Brown and Brodie Kostecki, along with local business owners.
The Boost Mobile-backed drivers will both make their full-time Supercars career debut at the October 28-30 event.
“It's very exciting, today really kicks off day one of the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500, with the event build starting to take place now,” Ramsden said.
“It’s going to be a big lead-up to what is hopefully the biggest Supercars event that we have seen on the Gold Coast.
“For the next six weeks you will see the Surfers Paradise precinct start to change, we’ve got over 6km of concrete barriers going in, it’s going to be an ever-changing landscape.
“It’s a $55million impact to the Gold Coast economy, with more than 121,000 visitor nights, so we are really looking forward to seeing that again this year.
“After a two-year hiatus due to COVID, just to bring it back and make it bigger and better than ever is what we are looking forward to.
“We have almost sold out the corporate facilities, and grandstand tickets are getting very close to being sold out as well. I would advise everybody who wants to attend the event, to get their tickets now.”
Brown and Kostecki visited local businesses in Main Beach on Monday to kick off the countdown to the event.
They delivered life-size cardboard cutouts of Supercars drivers to cafes on Tedder Avenue, with local business owners delighted to see the event return.
Kostecki said one of the most exciting additions to this year’s event will be three nights of entertainment on Macintosh Island for the first time in the event's history.
“Thankfully this is a place that I get to call home, and I’m really excited for the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 to be back,” Kostecki said.
“It's going to be a pretty awesome event, with some pretty cool headline acts, Sneaky Sound System, Bliss n Eso and also Carl Cox, it’s pretty exciting and the atmosphere is always really nice for this event.”
All entertainment is included as part of a same day event ticket to the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500.
