Feeney's trip down memory lane

Supercars rookie Broc Feeney has visited his old stomping ground just days out from the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500.

Feeney, who turned 20 last week, stopped by his former school All Saints Anglican School on Tuesday.

There, the rising star shared his experiences as a professional driver with students.

The Surfers streets will host Supercars for the first time since 2019, featuring dual 250km races. Tickets are on sale now.

The Gold Coast local will make his maiden Repco Supercars Championship round start at his home circuit.

The 2021 Dunlop Super2 Series champion will tackle the Surfers streets aboard the #88 Triple Eight Race Engineering Commodore.

“It does feel weird to be back here,” Feeney said of being back at school.

“I graduated in 2020 as just a normal kid, and now I'm coming back and speaking to some kids, it's pretty special to be back here, not much has changed.

“It’s good to catch up with the teachers; All Saints has been a part of my family and my life growing up for so many years.

"So to come back here and hopefully give some words of wisdom to the kids is pretty special.”

Feeney took part part in a special assembly at the Gold Coast campus held in his honour.

The Queenslander gave his youngest fans a tour of a go-kart, before answering questions about competing in Australia’s top tier of motorsport.

“Only two years ago I was still doing my classes and my final exams at school ,and now to be speaking here feels extremely weird, but it's great," he said.

“So much has happened for me in two year; I've gone from the school kid to a professional driver.

“The kids here are great, they had super good questions.

“It sounds like there's actually quite a few go-kart and motorbike riders in the room, so I probably relate a lot to those kids.

“I've been keeping in touch with a couple of them, as I went to school with some of their brothers.”

Feeney had his first taste of the Gold Coast street circuit in 2018, aboard an Aussie Racing Car.

He recorded a top 10 result at his home circuit, which helped kick-start his rapid rise to the main game.

The Gold Coast-born-racer has impressed in his maiden Supercars season, recording podiums in Tasmania and Sandown.

Now in front of his hometown fans, Feeney is looking forward to putting on a show.

“The last time we raced here I was in Year 11 and still a school student, and now to be back, it's awesome to have a home race,” he said.

“I've got to try and not treat it like a home race because there's a lot of family and friends coming to a lot of cool events like this.

"But once a helmet goes on, hopefully, we can get some good results on the weekend.

“We've been doing a really good job over the last few races; we've been consistently in that top five and fighting for podiums.

“Hopefully we can keep that form. No one has been here for three years and neither have I, and I probably have got a fair bit of catching up to do.

“I'm looking forward to it, and hopefully we can try and get a surfboard, that would be the dream.”

The entertainment on the streets of Surfers Paradise will flow across all three days, including some of the best off-track displays the event has ever seen.

Cars will hit the track for Practice 1 at 12:35pm local time/1:35pm AEDT on Friday.

The Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 will be held 28-30 October and broadcast live on Fox Sports and the Seven Network.
