Dunlop Super2 Series to hold Top Five Shootout at Bathurst
After debuting in Tasmania, Super2 Shootout returns on the biggest stage
Super2 returns to Mount Panorama on October 9-12
The Dunlop Super2 Series will make history in October with its inaugural Bathurst Shootout, as the Boost Mobile Top Five Shootout comes to Mount Panorama for the Repco Bathurst 1000.
The innovative one-lap shootout format made its successful debut in Tasmania earlier this season, where reigning Super2 champion Zach Bates secured the historic first pole position. Following that promising start, series organisers left the door open for additional shootouts throughout the season.
Super2 team owners were informed of the exciting development during a meeting in Queensland today, with Supercars officials confirming that the stars of tomorrow will get their chance to shine on Mount Panorama’s legendary slopes.
The Top Five Shootout will take place ahead of the opening race at Mount Panorama on Friday afternoon, following a traditional all-in qualifying session. The fastest five drivers will then earn the right to battle for pole position in the standalone shootout before Race 1 of the weekend gets underway.
Saturday’s Race 2 grid will be determined through a separate all-in Boost Mobile Qualifying session, maintaining the weekend’s competitive balance.
“Bathurst is our biggest stage, and this is a great opportunity for the next generation to make a statement,” said Supercars Chief Motorsport Officer Tim Edwards.
“The first ever Super2 Shootout in Tasmania was an impressive spectacle, and having one at Bathurst adds another exciting element to what will be a massive weekend.
“We’re always in awe of the feats our main game drivers achieve in the Bathurst Shootout, and now it’s time for our rising stars to make their own history.”
The development adds another layer of excitement to what promises to be a thrilling weekend, giving Super2 competitors the chance to experience the pressure and prestige of a Bathurst shootout before progressing to the main series.
The Dunlop Super2 Series continues with Round 4 this weekend at the Century Batteries Ipswich Super 440, before heading to Mount Panorama for Round 5 at the Repco Bathurst 1000 from October 9-12.
