David Reynolds to play charity AFL game this evening in Melbourne
Reynolds to play in Essendon Legends Game at Marvel Stadium
Veteran 18th in Supercars standings, will team up with Lee Holdsworth for enduros
David Reynolds is set to lace up the footy boots for the first time when he plays in a charity Aussie Rules match at Melbourne's Marvel Stadium this evening.
The Team 18 veteran is set to compete in the Essendon Football Club Legends Game which will act as a precursor to the AFL clash between Essendon and St Kilda. The charity match will begin at 5:05pm.
The call-up came through the backer of the #20 Chevrolet Camaro, TRADIE, who have been a long-time partner of Essendon, with Reynolds set to play for the TRADIE Dons tonight.
The Dons will play against the Bluestar Bombers, with Reynolds' opponents backed by Bluestar Global Logistics, another Team 18 sponsor.
Reynolds will play alongside the likes of former rugby union star and TRADIE ambassador Nick "Honey Badger" Cummins, TRADIE CEO Ben Goodfellow, and a host of former Essendon stars, with the match to raise funds for mental health.
“I’ve been roped into my first ever Aussie Rules game,” said Reynolds, who is keeping expectations well in check.
“I’m pretty useless when it comes to footy, I don’t really understand much of it and before today I’d never even kicked a ball.
“I think I’ll be a bench warmer, but it should be a lot of fun. We had a massive laugh at training today with the proper football club, so I reckon it’s going to be a good laugh in the end.

“It’s all about raising money for mental health, so it’s great to be a part of that and have TRADIE supporting it.
"BlueStar Global Logistics is on the other team as well, so it’s the TRADIE Dons versus the Bluestar Bombers. We’re actually sponsored by both, so I might even do a cheeky halftime defection, we’ll see what happens.
Reynolds is currently 18th in the Repco Supercars Championship, and comes off an Ipswich weekend that showed glimpses of promise with a best finish of ninth.
Reynolds' bid to secure a berth in the Repco Supercars Finals Series will likely hinge on winning the Ryco Enduro Cup alongside former teammate and 2021 Bathurst winner Lee Holdsworth.
“We had reasonable pace in Ipswich and qualified okay most days. I got shuffled back in the pits, and in the first race I was pushed off the track and went to last," Reynolds reflected.
"I was working my way back through but made a mistake on some oil. It’s been six years since we raced at Ipswich, and it turned out to be a pretty good weekend for us.”
The Ryco Enduro Cup begins at the AirTouch 500 at The Bend from September 12-14. Tickets are on sale now.
