  • Ferrari short on fuel relative to winning WRT BMWs

Chaz Mostert admits finishing fourth in Sunday’s epic Meguiar’s Bathurst 12 Hour “hurts,” with his Ferrari caught short on fuel.

Mostert combined with Supercars rival Will Brown and Ferrari factory driver Daniel Serra to finish one position off the podium in Arise Racing's #26 Ferrari.

The Ferrari had a fuel economy deficit to the winning BMWs, leaving two-time Bathurst 1000 winner Mostert with it all to do in the final stints after a stunning start.

Mostert started the race fifth and charged through to open up a big lead through the first hour, before the BMWs were revealed as the ones to beat.

Mostert returned the Ferrari to the head of the field late, passing eventual race-winning #32 Team WRT BMW with 38 minutes to go.

However, Mostert made a late extra fuel stop and eventually finished fourth, with the #77 Craft-Bamboo Mercedes also forced to pit in the closing stages.

Having to maintain pace with the leaders throughout, the #26 were roughly three laps short per stint, even as Safety Cars evened it out in the first half of the day.

It ensured Mostert remained without a Bathurst 12 Hour podium in nine starts in the event.

"Huge day at the 12HR today, had a great start to the race and good final stint but we were coming up a bit short on fuel,” Mostert posted to social media. “Was still able to finish P4 but hurts we didn’t get a step on the podium.

"Awesome to race with Will Brown and Daniel Serra, massive thanks to Arise Racing GT for having me and was great to be back with Adam [De Borre, engineer] at the Mountain."

Brown put on a show in the closing hours, fighting Porsche driver Alessio Picariello. Brown’s pressure led to an error by Picariello, before Mostert took over.

“P4 today is all we had. Had a blast racing with Chaz and Daniel,” Brown said.

"Fuel wasn’t on our side today. Hopefully we get to run it back next year, massive thanks to Arise Racing GT for the opportunity.”

There was better fortune on the other side of the garage, with the sister Arise #36 of Jaxon Evans/Brad Schumacher/Elliot Schutte/Alessio Rovera Ferrari 296 winning the Pro-Am class.

Mostert’s own Method Motorsport McLaren team, meanwhile won the GT4 class with the #24 car, which was a bright spot after the #25 entry sensationally crashed out early.

Brown and Mostert will commence their 2025 Supercars campaigns in Sydney on February 21-23. Tickets are on sale now.
