V8 Supercars Chief Executive Officer James Warburton welcomes Team Penske to the V8 Supercars Championship - and welcomes back two-time Champion Marcos Ambrose, who will drive the famous DJR #17 next season.

Warburton declared it "game on" for 2015, as one of the sport's most polarising personalities returns to race old friends and foes in a new generation V8 Supercar.

"To have the racing heritage and business pedigree of Team Penskeinvolved in V8 Supercars is great for the fans, our competitors, our teams and our sport," Warburton told v8supercars.com.au.

"In conjunction with this great announcement, to have the return of Marcos Ambrose after many years of successfully campaigning in NASCAR will bring huge interest locally and internationally and shake up the local competition between the drivers.

"This is also a fantastic and well deserved endorsement for a legend of Australian sport, Dick Johnson.

"Game on for 2015!"

Dick Johnson Racing officially announced the alliance with Team Penske and the return of Ambrose this morning.

"Team Penske is excited to partner with Dick Johnson Racing to compete in the V8 Supercars Championship starting next season," Roger Penske said in the release.

"We believe in building our businesses through racing and our success on the track. With our new business ventures in Australia, it makes sense to showcase our brands through the V8 Supercars Championship and the opportunity to work with DJR and Marcos Ambrose convinced us to go forward."

Ambrose has had a number of highlights in the V8 Supercars Championship, with 15 round wins from 65 rounds, 18 pole positions, 28 Championship race wins and is one of just five drivers to win back-to-back titles in a Ford.
