Shane van Gisbergen has issued a personal statement in the wake of last weekend’s Thrifty Newcastle 500.

Van Gisbergen beat Chaz Mostert in Sunday’s Race 2, a day after he crossed the line first in Race 1.

The #97 Red Bull Ampol Camaro — as well as teammate Broc Feeney — was later disqualified due to a technical breach.

Van Gisbergen returned on Sunday and eventually set up a thrilling Chevrolet vs Ford battle with Mostert.

The reigning champion passed Mostert late in the race, helping himself to a belated 76th career victory.

Van Gisbergen posted the following statement to his social media accounts a day after his Race 2 victory:

The 2023 Repco Supercars Championship will resume at the Beaurepaires Melbourne SuperSprint on March 30-April 2.
