Supercars issued a statement this afternoon, following the Queensland Government’s announcement regarding border closures.

“We are aware of this afternoon’s announcement from the Queensland Government,” a Supercars spokesperson said.

“At this early stage, we are assessing all options regarding the Truck Assist Winton SuperSprint and will advise in due course.

“We will continue to prioritise above all else the safety and wellbeing of our people, teams, drivers and officials.”

The response comes as the Queensland Government announced today it would open its borders on July 10 to all states other than Victoria, which has been hit hard by COVID-19 cases in recent times.

The Truck Assist Winton SuperSprint is due to take place on July 18-19 in northern Victoria.

It’s the second event listed on the revised Virgin Australia Supercars Championship calendar, following last weekend’s successful return at Sydney Motorsport Park.

More information on the matter is expected tomorrow.
