Jonathon and Kobe Webb have confirmed the sale of Team SYDNEY to PremiAir Racing.

PremiAir Hire Managing Director Peter Xiberras is set to lead the squad in 2022, purchasing the Webb family’s two Racing Entitlements Contracts.

The acquisition of Team Sydney ends the Webb family’s 12-year association with the Repco Supercars Championship.

2021 season in 14 minutes

"Kobe and I are grateful that Peter Xiberras and PremiAir Hire will continue to build Team SYDNEY within the Supercars Championship.” Jonathan Webb said.

"We are thankful for the support and friendships we have welcomed over the past 12 years of racing - significantly Tony Quinn, Triple 8, KRE, ARDC, Steve Hallam, Dr. Geoffrey Slater, Mick Shortus (our first employee who remained with us for our entire Supercars journey), and many more.

“Thank you to our Drivers, crew, and families."

"We look forward to seeing what the 2022 season brings for all involved- all the best.”

Australian businessman and top fuel drag racer Xiberras has a long association with Team Sydney, sponsoring Garry Jacobson’s #22 PremiAir Hire Commodore entry.

The 53-year-old is excited by the prospect of stepping into an ownership role ahead of the season-opening Repco Newcastle 500.

“It’s daunting, and there are a lot of mixed emotions,” Xiberras told Supercars.com.

“There’s a lot to do in a short time frame, we are kind of still piecing it all together.

“Sometimes you can achieve in six weeks what would have taken you 12 months if you’ve got a tight deadline to work to.

“But what is comforting for me, is that I've been involved with the team over the past few years, and I have seen how it works, so I am really excited to get involved and push the team forward.”

Xiberras confirmed the team will no longer be based in Sydney, with Melbourne and Brisbane locations being considered.

Confirmation of team members and its workshop location are due to be announced in the coming weeks. The team will continue to run Triple Eight ZB Commodores for the 2022 season.

“We will be ready for round one, it might not be exactly what we want by then, but we will be competitive and do what we need to do.

“For the rest of this year, it will be about learning and growing and hopefully getting better and better as we go along.”

The 13-event 2022 Repco Supercars Championship will commence in Newcastle in March. Tickets for the event are on sale now.
