Jordan Boys says he encountered difficulty adapting to a new car at Tuesday’s Winton test.

Boys will make his solo debut next weekend aboard an Image Racing-supported Erebus Motorsport ZB Commodore.

He was one of two wildcards on track, with Jayden Ojeda turning laps in his Walkinshaw Andretti United wildcard.

Boys shifts from VF to ZB machinery, although he did contest the 2020 Bathurst 1000 in a ZB Commodore.

He also completed ZB running in 2019 evaluation days and an Additional Driver session.

However, driving a new car around a circuit he knows well still came with its challenges.

"The ZB, compared to the VF, the aero’s a lot different," the 24-year-old said.

"So being able to charge into the [Turn 5] sweeper and that kind of thing’s definitely a lot different feeling.

"Then the Soft tyre took a fair bit to get used to, so just not used to being able to brake so deep.

“Kind of a weird tyre to brake on, so it definitely took me a while to adjust to the car today.

"Feel like we’re closer now at the end of the day, but definitely need to do some more learning at the race meeting.”

Not only is there extra downforce on the ZB relative to the VF; Boys also ran Tuesday’s test on the Soft tyre.

Ojeda was also on track

It led to later braking, something Boys had to get used to.

Nevertheless, it was a crucial chance to learn ahead of his solo debut at the Pizza Hut Winton SuperSprint.

Ojeda will also race at Winton next weekend.

"Winton’s the home track, so I do feel comfortable here,” Boys said.

"I guess today the hardest part for me was it’s just the fastest I’ve ever been here.

"Pushing past those limits that I’m so used to, it was quite difficult.

"That was the hardest part at this track in these cars compared to the Super2 car that I’m used to."

The 2022 season will resume at Winton on May 21-22. Purchase your tickets now.
