Cam Waters to record 300th Supercars race start in Ipswich finale
Tickford star has claimed 18 race wins, 32 poles since full debut in 2016
Waters chasing first championship, Bathurst wins this season
Race 25 of the 2025 Repco Supercars Championship will see one of the superstars of the championship notch a remarkable milestone.
Cam Waters enters the Century Batteries Ipswich Super 440 on 297 career starts, and will notch up 300 career starts in Sunday afternoon's 200km Repco Sprint Cup finale.
It's been a journey spanning 15 years, when Waters made his debut at the toughest event of them all, the Bathurst 1000.
It wouldn't be until a move to Tickford (then Ford Performance Racing) that Waters would get runs on the board in Super2 before graduating to a full-time drive in 2016.
Ever since, Waters has established himself as one of the fastest, most spectacular drivers to watch in the Repco Supercars Championship, and has often led the way for Ford.
Never one to back down from a fight, the 2015 Super2 champion was one of a rare few who took the battle to Shane van Gisbergen during his dominant run between 2021 and 2022, resulting in some memorable duels.
His one lap prowess is also second to none among active drivers, with the 31-year-old lauded as one of the best at ragging a result that some mightn't have thought possible.
Ahead of Cam Waters' 300th Supercars start on Sunday in Ipswich, Supercars.com takes a look at some of the key numbers through the first 297 races of his career.

The winning margin in perhaps the best drive of Waters' career. This year's Saturday night race in Sydney was an absolute belter, with the #6 Mustang clearly the fastest car, however utilising an aggressive strategy to best utilise the pace. A charging comeback drive led to a sensational battle with Broc Feeney, leading to an unforgettable run to the line with Waters edging ahead by a nose.

Waters is twice a Boost Mobile Pole Champion Award winner in the past three seasons, cementing his status as a qualifying master. Although Shane van Gisbergen claimed the lion's share of race wins in 2022, it was Waters who proved the one lap specialist, taking 10 poles for the season. Last year he claimed seven poles to claim his second pole champion's award, whilst he started 2025 with a perfect weekend at Sydney.

The time Waters set to claim pole position at the 2020 Bathurst 1000. It was a memorable Top Ten Shootout performance from Waters, who flew across the top of the mountain to be the only driver to dip into the 2:03s bracket. Underscoring how impressive his lap was, Scott McLaughlin was 0.4429s behind in second.

When the #6 Monster Mustang qualifies on pole position, there's a very good chance that it will be converted into a victory. Of the 31-year-old's 18 career victories, 11 have been won from pole position, making for a 61% strike rate.

Fresh off winning the Shannons Supercars Showdown reality TV series, a fresh-faced Waters was thrown into the deep end at the 2011 Bathurst 1000 aged just 17 years old. Waters teamed up with the experienced Grant Denyer in a Kelly Racing-prepared Commodore, and survived a wild 360 degree spin at Skyline during practice. However, the mountain would bite on Sunday, with Waters nosing into the wall at Forrests Elbow.

Remarkably, for all of Waters' considerable successes in the Repco Supercars Championship, he is yet to claim a championship crown or a Bathurst victory. Waters has been the bridesmaid on two occasions in 2020 and 2022, only being bettered by legendary seasons for Scott McLaughlin and Shane van Gisbergen respectively. Waters has also finished second at Bathurst twice in 2020 and 2021, and finished third in 2022.
