Broc Feeney won 2025 Sprint Cup with 12 wins, 13 poles
Feeney leads Matt Payne by 345 points, Will Brown by 355 points
Feeney locked into first round of The Finals at the Gold Coast
Broc Feeney has 12 wins and 13 poles already this season, but with the introduction of The Finals, but like anyone else, he could very much miss out on the championship.
The 22-year-old has been the runaway star of 2025 so far, winning 50% of the races and taking 52% of the poles.
Heading into the Ryco Enduro Cup, Feeney is 345 points ahead of his closest rival Matt Payne, with teammate and reigning champion Will Brown 355 behind.
Since the 300-point system was introduced in 2008, the pre-enduro points leader has become champion 13 times in 17 seasons.
However, they didn’t have to try and close it out across three elimination rounds with points resets.
So, what does Feeney himself think?
“You’re in the danger zone,” Feeney said of The Finals on the Lucky Dogs podcast.
“It’s been an awesome year, I’ve won heaps of races, but you could be done like that. It’s really cool, you could win every single race of the year, but DNF the last race in Adelaide and lose the championship.”
Feeney currently has the form in hand to win the championship either way, but there are still nine huge races to win, each with a significant bearing on the year. The looming threat of The Finals is nothing new for Feeney, who said earlier this year that he has to keep on his toes.
He has 25 bonus points in hand for the first Finals round on the Gold Coast, and could yet add 25 more with victory in the Ryco Enduro Cup.
All told, Feeney insisted he is trying to keep his head in the game, claiming he risks falling apart in the year's biggest races if he adopts a negative mindset. To date, he has made few errors, although ones like the false start penalty in Ipswich would have a larger effect on the outcome in The Finals.
When asked if it "sucks” that he has to face The Finals after having a dominant year, Feeney said: “It definitely does, but I'm trying to go in with a good approach.
"I don’t want to be negative, because I’ll probably go shit. I’m trying to be open-minded about it.
"I get the side that they’ve put it in for, not to say that it’s an easy run home from how, because I could DNF any of the next two and be equal with you straight away.
"If the championship was wrapped up, it defeats the [purpose of the] Grand Final at Adelaide. There’s a lot to play out."
The 2025 season resumes at the AirTouch 500 at The Bend on September 12-14, followed by the Repco Bathurst 1000 on Octoebr 9-12.
