Rylan Gray tops opening Super2 practice session of championship weekend
Rookie of the year leader Jackson Walls brought out lengthy red flag after heavy crash
NASCAR Xfinity Series champion Jesse Love gets first taste of Adelaide Parklands Circuit
Dunlop Super2 Series points leader Rylan Gray has started his final weekend in Super2 in strong fashion, posting the fastest time in opening practice at the bp Adelaide Grand Final.
The Tickford Autosport star, who has secured a plum main game drive with Dick Johnson Racing in 2026, set a 1:20.9265 to pip teammate Reuben Goodall by just 0.09s.
Gray enters the weekend with a 147 point lead over fellow Tickford driver Lochie Dalton, and will clinch the title in Race 1 on Saturday if he is the first of Tickford's four cars to cross the line.
The other big story from the opening session of the weekend was the heavy crash suffered by current rookie leader Jackson Walls, who thumped the wall between Turns 13 and 14 early in the session.
The #11 Objective Commodore sustained heavy damage down its left-hand side, with his participation in this afternoon's second practice session currently in doubt.
A lengthy delay ensued as the concrete wall was realigned, cutting out around 10 minutes of the scheduled 40, however in that time Tickford had already flexed their muscle.
Gray would remain at the pointy end throughout, whilst Round 1 winner Jordyn Sinni would pop up into the top three late for Eggleston Motorsport.
Cameron McLeod would wind up fourth, just over two tenths of a second behind Gray, with Brad Vaughan dropping into fifth with an identical time.
NASCAR Xfinity Series champion Jesse Love got his first taste of the Adelaide Parkland Circuit this morning, and kept his nose clean to finish the session in 22nd, within two and a half seconds of Gray's benchmark.
Practice 2 is scheduled to begin at 2:00pm local time/2:30pm AEDT.
