Will Brown intrigued by Ford move, General Motors response
Triple Eight to join Ford in 2026, after leading GM's charge since 2010
Brown has raced GM cars in Supercars since debut in 2018
Will Brown believes Triple Eight’s shock move to Ford has proven a win for Supercars amid a renewed push by General Motors to stay at the front.
In January, Triple Eight shocked world motorsport with a stunning defection to the Blue Oval, having dominated for 15 years in GM cars.
After initial fears over GM’s immediate future, having lost its star team, the powerhouse leapt into action with a stunning spree.
In quick time, GM poached Triple Eight’s tech guru Jeromy Moore, re-signed Craig Lowndes, and signed former Holden motorsport boss Simon McNamara.
Team 18 also signed on as GM’s new homologation team, with Triple Eight to take over from arch rivals Dick Johnson Racing in the Blue Oval fold.

Speaking on his new The Lucky Dogs podcast, Brown — who has raced GM cars since his Supercars debut in 2018 — said: “Ford is tipping in a lot of resources into motorsport right now.
“It was a weird one when it happened, it was so unexpected. They kept it so quiet. I got told 12 hours before the announcement.
“I’ve driven the GM product the whole time, but I can understand why Triple Eight has gone that way.
"I think they thought it might have gone a bit different. At the time, they thought Kenny [McNamara, KRE Race Engines] would do the Ford motors… there’s been a lot of knock-on effects.
“I think it’s actually been really good for the sport, it’s been great to see GM get revived and start spending more money.
"They probably should’ve just spent the money at the start, and sponsored us. But it’s cool.”
Brown has five rounds and 12 races left in a Camaro before he shifts into a Mustang next season, but is keen to sample a Ford before he jumps in from 2026. Given GM commitments, Brown and teammate Broc Feeney are unlikely to step into a Mustang before the 2025 season is out.
“When [the news broke], people were like, 'GM are going to pull out of the sport, which would be terrible for us’,” Brown said.
"They’ve gone the other way, we’re going to try and show these guys we can run competitively and we’re going to invest back in the sport.
"I’m keen for the Ford switch. It’s something different. Obviously for us, it’s learning a new car… I’m keen for it.
“I’m very interested to do my first laps. I haven’t actually been told yet when we’re allowed to drive it, how much we’re allowed to."
Brown will resume his 2025 campaign at this weekend's Century Batteries Ipswich Super 440 from August 8-10. Tickets are on sale now. International viewers can watch the action on SuperView.
