Tickford Racing out to correct "bad stuff" in defining run home
Cam Waters set to clinch Finals berth at The Bend, Thomas Randle on bubble
Waters bullish over Enduro Cup hopes with Mark Winterbottom
Tickford Racing owner Rod Nash is hopeful his team has seen the last of its “bad stuff” in 2025 as it aims to close out the season on top.
Cam Waters enters the first round of the Ryco Enduro Cup a whopping 506 points ahead of 11th, and is odds-on to clinch his Finals berth.
It’s a much tighter scenario for Thomas Randle, who is only 20 points clear. However, Randle isn’t concerned, nor is his team.
Still, Tickford has shown time and again since Sydney that it is prone to errors and a lack of performance, headlined by a double qualifying disaster in the Ipswich finale.
Waters and Randle both missed Q2, with Waters emerged on the podium after a stroke of luck with a Safety Car.
Speaking after the race, Waters was adamant he can challenge for the Ryco Enduro Cup with Mark Winterbottom, which would go a long way in making a splash in The Finals.
After a series of hiccups — such as loose wheels, strategy fumbles and incidents — Nash is hopeful Tickford’s worst in 2025 has already happened.
“We’ve come out of the weekend better than we expected after the way things started. It’s not our home track and that showed,” Nash said.
“Cam Waters finished well and Thomas Randle also had a strong run on Sunday, after we got creative with the pitstops.
“If we had to get the bad stuff out of the way, this was the weekend to do it. Now we’ve got to maximise the points and for Thomas it’s about getting him strongly into the mix for the top 10.
"The next two meetings are pretty important with double points at The Bend and Bathurst.”
Track action at the AirTouch 500 at The Bend commences on Friday September 12.
