If you’re new to Supercars, you may have a few questions about the world’s best touring car championship. We’ve got you covered in our beginner’s guide!

The beginner’s guide to F1 tyres Through all the talk of cars, drivers and teams, tyres are the only parts of a Supercar that actually touch the track.

It’s the most important part of the car, and it’s down to drivers and teams to make them come alive, and make them last.

Who supplies Supercars teams with tyres?

Supercars continue to stick with Dunlop for the 24th as the championship's Official Control Tyre.

Since 2002, Dunlop been providing Supercars with the Dunlop SP Sport Maxx race tyre manufactured using the latest in tyre technology and engineered to deliver competitive and exciting racing.

All of the greatest Supercars racing moments of the past two decades have been on Dunlop tyres.

Dunlop Tyres are the exclusive tyre of the 2025 Repco Supercars Championship and the 2025 Dunlop Super2 Series.

What tyres are used in Supercars?

This year, Dunlop will provide approximately 14,000 Dunlop Sport Maxx tyres in four specifications tailored to different track surfaces and race formats to ensure competitive and exciting Supercars racing.

The four specifications are Soft (S), Super Soft (SS), Wet-weather (W) and pre–marked. The Soft is a new construction for 2025, following a year of testing and development.

All-new Soft tyres were produced for the 2025 season in the effort to create a compound that lasts, and one that drivers can push on for as long as possible.

Pre-marked tyres may be used for all practice and warm-up s.essions

Where are the different compounds used?

The Soft tyre is a brand-new construction for 2025, with the previous Hard and Soft tyre no longer in use. The Super Soft carries over from 2024.

Both compounds of tyres will be used on the Saturday of all Super 440 events, with each race and corresponding qualifying session to be held on different compounds.

Both races on the Gold Coast and at Sandown will also be split between compounds, with Saturday running on the Super Soft, and Sunday on the Soft.

The Soft tyre will be the sole compound eligible for Sunday's 200km race at Taupo, Perth, Darwin, and Ipswich.

The Soft will also be used for all races at Sydney, Melbourne, Townsville, The Bend, Bathurst, and Adelaide.

The Super Soft tyre will be used for Sunday running at the Tasmania Super 440.

The Dunlop Wet tyre remains the same construction as is being used this season.

How many tyres do drivers get each weekend?

There are compulsory pit stops (CPS) at the Grand Prix event and both Enduro Cup races at The Bend and Bathurst.

At every other event, there will be either one or two CPSs per race.

Including pre-marked tyres, the total allocation varies weekend to weekend, with cars allocated a total of 36 tyres (nine sets) at Super 440 race weekends.

Rookie drivers and second-year rookie drivers are also entitled to extra pre-marked tyres.
