A tradition of sorts has continued into Triple Eight Race Engineering’s latest Ford era — bestowing nicknames on cars.
Jamie Whincup and Shane van Gisbergen kicked off the practice, with Broc Feeney and Will Brown continuing it.
With Triple Eight building two new Red Bull Ampol Ford Mustangs, the quirk has rolled into 2026.
Brown hit the track in his new #888 Red Bull Ampol Ford, chassis 888A-073, for its shakedown at Queensland Raceway on Tuesday.
On Monday, Feeney rolled out his new car — chassis 888A-072 — while the Triple Eight-built, SCT Motorsport-run Mustang of Jackson Walls has also been on track.
Both Feeney and Brown have since revealed that their new Fords have been christened ‘Aurora’ and ‘Destiny Montana’ respectively.
Destiny Montana was the car that wowed fans at Triple Eight’s season launch in Geelong last weekend — although Brown quipped his smoke show put some stress on his car.
“I’ve just driven my Mustang for the first time,” Brown said in a team social media video.
“Obviously it’s a brand new car, it did do the burnout at Geelong which isn’t perfect for a brand new car.
“Felt really good, we’ll have a look over it, and then we’ll get into our laps for today. You only get 60 kilometres at a shakedown day, which is about 19 laps around Ipswich.
“So, every lap counts."
Feeney and Brown follow the likes of Whincup and van Gisbergen, who steered two of the most successful cars in history, made famous by their nicknames.
Many know Whincup’s double championship winning and Bathurst winning Holden VE Commodore as ‘Kate’, which took out the 2011 and 2012 titles, and 2012 Bathurst 1000.
Kate was the most successful chassis of all time, until it was beaten by van Gisbergen’s ‘Chastiti’, which dominated the 2021 and 2022 seasons.
Feeney and Brown steered their previous Camaros, ‘Charlotte’ and ‘Rhonda’ to success across the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
Charlotte (888A-065) is the most successful Gen3 chassis by a margin with 20 wins, while Brown’s Rhonda won the 2024 championship.
The 2026 Supercars season will commence at the DUNLOP Sydney 500 from February 20-22. Tickets for the event, including DUNLOP Free Friday, are on sale now.
