Matt Payne Payne Ford smashed by drive-through penalty
#19 Penrite Racing Mustang penalised over pit stop infringement
Payne penalised earlier for clash with David Reynolds
Matt Payne and Will Davison's Repco Bathurst 1000 continues to unravel, with the #19 Penrite Ford smashed by a drive-through penalty.
The #19 had already served a five-second penalty, earned by Payne over a clash with David Reynolds on Conrod Straight, by the time Davison was brought in for the costly drive-through.
The infringement happened at the car's third stop, with a wheel rolling towards the fast lane as Penrite crew fuelled the car.
Officials quickly put the pit stop under investigation, with the breach later confirmed.
Davison was called into the lane to serve the penalty immediately.
Penrite Racing CEO Brenton Grove fumed over the outcome, and claimed brake issues as a "joke" following an earlier stop for the #26 Ford of Kai Allen/Tim Slade.
"We're doing a pretty good job at throwing this race away," Grove said on the broadcast.
"It's not the way we normally operate, and it's not the way we pride ourselves on running our race team, and we're doing a pretty good job at giving it to everyone else.
"We need to do a better job, simple as that."
The Allen/Slade Ford made an early brake stop, leaving Grove frustrated: "The problem is now we’ve changed brakes after 70 laps or something and we’ve got 85 laps to go. Let’s see if we can make it home."
Davison and Allen were in the two Penrite Ford at half-race distance, sitting 10th and 19th respectively.
