Kai Allen facing investigation over alleged qualifying incident
Penrite Racing driver claimed provisional Boost Mobile Pole
Allen alleged to have impeded Ford rival Jackson Walls
Penrite Racing driver Kai Allen is facing investigation over an alleged impeding incident at the Century Batteries Ipswich Super 440.
Allen claimed provisional Race 28 pole in Boost Mobile Qualifying, beating the Red Bull Ampol Fords of Will Brown and Broc Feeney.
The South Australian claimed provisional pole at the death in Q2, beating Race 27 winner Brown by 0.05s.
Prior to the Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout, Race Control advised that Allen had been placed under investigation for an alleged impeding incident.
Supercars.com can confirm Allen is alleged to have impeded Objective Racing rookie Jackson Walls. Walls trailed Allen for the final runs in Q2, with Allen jumping to provisional pole at the death.
The hearing will be heard after the Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout, with Allen third fastest behind Will Brown and Broc Feeney.
Allen began the day chasing his maiden Supercars pole position, with teammate Matt Payne in the box seat to win the Repco Sprint Cup.
Prior to news of the investigation, Allen told the broadcast: “I obviously had a really good tow in that one. The car was exceptional.
“Put a lap together and it was a bit of a sigh of relief. I haven’t really been able to do that for a long time.
“Credit to Riccardo [Corte, race engineer]. He tuned the thing up. It’s going to be hard in the Shootout. Got to get the tyres up. We’ve just got to see how we go.”
The 62-lap Race 28 will commence at 3:20pm AEST.
