Allen car cited over minimum tyre pressure rule
Kai Allen will keep fifth in Sunday’s race results following a post-race stewards hearing.
The Penrite Racing driver charged from 23rd on the grid to fifth at the chequered flag in a remarkable drive.
It emerged midway through the race, however, that the Grove squad would be subject to an investigation over an alleged breach.
Race Control advised that the #26 Ford had been cited over Rule D17.1.18, which states: "The minimum permitted pressure of a Control Tyre when fitted to a Car is 16psi which must be achieved at any time that the Car is on the Circuit during any Session.”
Penrite Racing confirmed to Supercars.com that no penalties had been awarded. Motorsport Australia findings have yet to be released at the time of publication.
It ensures Allen retains fifth in the championship ahead of Team 18’s Anton De Pasquale, who claimed another podium finish in Sunday’s race.
It was the final exclamation point on a wild weekend for Allen, who also avoided penalty over a controversial clash with Ford rival Brodie Kostecki in the weekend’s first race.
Allen then qualified 23rd for Sunday’s race after a power steering issue kept him in the garage.
In the race, Allen clashed with Will Brown through the fast Turns 2/3 section, with Brown already carrying a penalty over an incident with Rylan Gray.
Penrite Racing leads the teams’ championship over Brown’s Triple Eight by an extended 258 points.
