Ryan Wood has taken another step towards victory in the Jason Richards Trophy, with Brodie Kostecki moving to second after a tough day for Red Bull Ampol Racing.

Kostecki and Wood finished behind eventual winner Kai Allen, who claimed his maiden victory in the first ever Supercars race in Christchurch.

Wood jumped from 10th to eighth courtesy of his win, but it was a tougher day for rival Ford team Red Bull Ampol Racing. Broc Feeney and Will Brown dropped from second and third, to third and sixth, following a bruising outing for Triple Eight Race Engineering.

Brown sustained rear damage and tumbled down to 17th from fifth on the grid, while a slow stop delayed Feeney, who came home 10th.

Wood will take a 40-point lead over Kostecki into Saturday, which offers 170 points — two races, 80 points for a win, plus five fastest lap bonus points.
