Supercars has announced a history-making attendance of 65,806, at the inaugural ITM Christchurch Super 440.
This makes it the biggest event ever held at the Ruapuna Raceway and an unforgettable debut for the Repco Supercars Championship on New Zealand’s South Island.
It included a total sellout of Saturday and Sunday – and huge support for the additional Friday race, carried over from Taupō.
Supercars Chair and Interim Chief Executive Barclay Nettlefold said: “The passion, devotion and knowledge of the fans here at Ruapuna has blown us away.”
“A South Island race has been a long time coming and we thank everyone who came here over these special three days for bringing it to life.
“We’re working closely with our hosts, the Canterbury Car Club, to make this experience even bigger and better next year.”
Along with our teams and fans, Supercars thanks the New Zealand Government, Christchurch NZ and ITM for their partnership at this event.
Christchurch Mayor Phil Mauger said: “This weekend has been amazing for our city and local motorsport community.”
“Seeing all the fans come out to enjoy the racing at Ruapuna has been really special and the energy around town has been incredible.”
“We are thrilled to give Supercars a home here in Christchurch and include this world class event in our calendar.”
A total of 95,368 people attended the first ITM NZ Double Header, despite the unprecedented cancellation of Sunday in Taupō.
After packing up and shipping back home bases in Australia, the Repco Supercars Championship resumes with the Tyrepower Tasmania Super 440 on May 22-24.
