Supercars legend Greg Murphy will make a surprise appearance at the upcoming ITM Taupō Super 440.
The four-time Bathurst 1000 winner will get behind the wheel of a Shelby Mustang in the Central Muscle Cars category, which supports Supercars on April 10-12.
It’s a major boost for Kiwi fans, who alongside seeing their Supercars heroes hit the track, will get a taste of the past through Murphy.
Murphy famously put Supercars on the map with his dominance at Pukekohe in the early 2000s.
The 28-time Supercars race winner steps into the Mustang with regular driver and owner Steve Noyer unavailable due.
Murphy has been a constant of the Supercars paddock, mentoring Walkinshaw TWG Racing rising star Ryan Wood.
“I appreciate the opportunity,” Murphy said in a video.
“It’s a great class, I love it, I love the cars that are in it, I love the noise that they make, you boys put on a pretty good show.
“Supercars is a big event, and we want to make sure all the crowds in between the Supercars races are happy.”
Murphy's last Supercars start came in a wildcard Holden Commodore in the 2022 Repco Bathurst 1000 alongside Richie Stanaway.
Central Muscle Cars joins TA2 NZ and the New Zealand Toyota 86 Championship at Taupō, with track action commencing on April 10. Tickets are on sale now.
