Tom Moore continues as Brodie Kostecki engineer for Gold Coast
Moore stepped in for George Commins at Repco Bathurst 1000
Commins was sidelined after sustaining injuries in bike accident
Shell V-Power Racing Team star Brodie Kostecki will again have Bathurst-winning super-sub engineer Tom Moore by his side on the Gold Coast.
Veteran engineer Commins missed the Repco Bathurst 1000 after sustaining injuries in a mountain biking accident. Dick Johnson Racing Team Manager Moore stepped up to engineer the #17 Ford, which raced to victory in last weekend’s Bathurst classic.
Moore will remain in the race engineer role for Kostecki’s Ford at this weekend’s Repco Supercars Finals Series opener, the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500.
Kostecki is among the favourites for this year’s championship, especially after his blazing drive at Mount Panorama. 40% of fans agreed that Kostecki was the favourite in a recent Supercars.com poll.
Speaking on his PG and the Doc podcast, DJR co-owner Dr Ryan Story was hopeful Commins would be trackside on the Gold Coast in a performance role.
However, the #17 crew will maintain continuity from Bathurst as Moore returns to oversee Kostecki, who enters the weekend 54 points behind leader Matt Payne, and 46 points ahead of eighth place.
“[Commins is] doing really well,” Story said.
“We’re really hoping he can be with us on the Gold Coast, but we don’t want to put any pressure on him.
“To have him as part of the brains trust for the Gold Coast weekend adds to our group.
“We’re going to have continuity from how we ran at Bathurst in that Tom will still be running the car and on the radio to Brodie.
“That’s to maximise the opportunity for George to come back, not have the pressure, if he has fatigue or isn’t doing that flash and needs to go back to the hotel for any reason at all, it’s not going to disrupt what we’re doing.
“And it allows him to ease back in, but that’s a decision we’ve made in the lead-up to the race weekend.”
Commins engineered Kostecki to 2023 championship and 2024 Bathurst wins with Erebus Motorsport, before they both moved to DJR in 2025.
