Brodie Kostecki wishes injured DJR engineer a speedy recovery
George Commins will miss Bathurst 1000 after sustaining injuries
Commins led Kostecki to 2023 championship, 2024 Bathurst win
Ford star Brodie Kostecki has wished injured engineer George Commins a speedy recovery, but maintains there’s no timeline on his return.
Commins led Kostecki to victory in the 2023 drivers' championship and 2024 Bathurst 1000 with Erebus Motorsport, and the pair have combined to claim 10 wins across the last two seasons with Dick Johnson Racing.
The Kostecki/Todd Hazelwood Ford will be engineered by DJR Team Manager Tom Moore at Mount Panorama.
The timing impacts Kostecki’s Bathurst hopes, and could also affect his Gold Coast campaign, which kicks off the 2026 Repco Supercars Finals Series.
“I’m not really too sure, it’s obviously so close still to the incident,” Kostecki told media of Commins’ return.
“It’s one of those things that time will tell, so we’ll just see what happens.
"George actually sent me a message and said that he was in hospital and had done a bit of damage to himself.
“He’s on the mend. He’ll be off his feet for a little while, and we wish him a speedy recovery."
Kostecki joked: “I’m still quite unsure exactly how the crash happened. I think Tom could have been there with a stick and shoved it in his front wheel.
“Time will tell. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to work with Tom. We’ve been pretty excited.
“George has done all the legwork coming into the weekend, and every time he’s given me a race car here it’s been one of the fastest.
“It’ll be from all his hard work coming to this weekend, and it’s just our job to execute.”
Teams aren’t permitted to send data off-site across a race weekend.
“It’s obviously tough not having George here, he’s one of the best in the industry and we’ve had such a great partnership together and understand each other so well,” Kostecki added.
“But in saying that, having Tom Moore here and stepping in for him, I’ve been sitting across the same desk as him for the past five years, so I think Tom knows me quite well.”
Track action commences on Thursday at 1:30pm AEDT.
