Supercars races at Symmons Plains Raceway May 22–24
Devonport to host Supercars Fanfare at Market Square Pavilion
Event to take place from 3pm to 6pm on Wednesday May 20
Supercars will bring the excitement of the Repco Supercars Championship to the streets of Devonport in May, with a free fan event to kick off festivities ahead of the Tyrepower Tasmania Super 440.
From 3:00pm to 6:00pm on Wednesday, May 20, Supercars will host the Supercars Fanfare on Formby Road and at the Market Square Pavilion, giving fans the chance to get up close with the stars and cars of the Championship before the action begins at Symmons Plains Raceway from Friday.
The free public event will feature several Gen3 Supercars and star drivers, with fans able to meet the stars, see the cars, and win prizes in the lead-up to Tasmania’s premier motorsport event.
Reigning Supercars champion Chaz Mostert, Repco Bathurst 1000 winner Matt Payne, Tasmania race winner Cam Waters, and more will headline those in attendance.
Devonport already has a strong connection to Supercars, with team transporters traditionally arriving in Tasmania via ferry across Bass Strait before making their way to Launceston and Symmons Plains Raceway.
Tasmania Super 440 Event Manager Matt Gegg said Supercars Fanfare in Devonport would be the perfect way to launch race week on the Apple Isle.
“Supercars Fanfare is a fantastic way to kick off race week in Tasmania and bring the excitement of Supercars to the fans as we arrive in Tasmania,” Gegg said.
“Devonport plays an important role in Supercars’ journey to Tasmania each year, so it’s fitting that we celebrate that connection by hosting a free fan event in the heart of town.
“It’s a great opportunity for locals and visitors to meet the drivers, see the cars up close, and really get a taste of what’s to come at the Tyrepower Tasmania Super 440.”
A Devonport City Council spokesperson said hosting the Supercars Fanfare was a valuable opportunity for the city.
“Devonport is proud to host the inaugural Supercars Fanfare and welcome fans, teams and visitors into our city as part of race week,” the spokesperson said.
“Events like this deliver great energy into the CBD, support local businesses and showcase Devonport as a vibrant destination for major events and community celebration.”
Parliamentary Secretary for Youth Engagement and Sport, Rob Fairs, said the Tasmanian Government has been a strong supporter of Supercars since the event first came to Tasmania.
“There’s nothing quite like Supercars in Tasmania and bringing that energy into the heart of Devonport is a huge win for fans," Fairs said.
"The Supercars Fanfare is all about giving people the chance to meet their favourite drivers, see the cars up close and be part of the action before it hits the track.
“We know that it also brings a significant number of interstate visitors to Tasmania, making a massive contribution to our visitor economy."
Following the Wednesday event in Devonport, the Repco Supercars Championship will head to Symmons Plains Raceway for the Tyrepower Tasmania Super 440 from May 22–24.
The event will feature the 100th Supercars/ATCC race held at Symmons Plains, joining Perth’s Wanneroo Raceway as the only two circuits to reach the milestone.
Tickets and corporate hospitality options for Tasmania’s largest annual sporting event are available via Supercars.com and Ticketek.
