Brodie Kostecki, Thomas Randle treated and released
DJR star raced to third in Darwin Saturday race amid illness
Kostecki withdrawn from podium, press conference
Brodie Kostecki has been treated and released from the Darwin medical centre after a gutsy run to the podium.
The Shell V-Power Racing Team star, who has been battling ill health all week, charged to third in Saturday’s betr Darwin Triple Crown race.
Kostecki hounded pole man Cam Waters home in the final stint, allowing eventual winner Kai Allen to skip to a dominant win.
Kostecki brought his car to PIRTEK Victory Lane, before sitting on the side of his car as he received attention. He was quickly tended to by team physiotherapist Paul Haines, before Supercars Medical Delegate Dr Carl Le escorted the driver to the medical car.
He was then taken to the medical centre for further observation. Kostecki didn’t complete interviews, with engineer George Commins representing him on the podium.
Kostecki, who was withdrawn from Thursday’s Track to Town, was also withdrawn from the post-race press conference. It's understood Kostecki had an issue with the in-car drink system.
So impressive was Kostecki’s effort, that he further slashed the deficit to championship leader Broc Feeney. Heading into Sunday, Feeney is 39 points ahead of Matt Payne, with Kostecki 117 points down.
Payne and Kostecki were 90 and 173 points behind respectively heading into the weekend.
Tickford Racing driver Thomas Randle also visited the medical centre following a suspected cool suit failure, having finished 12th in his #55 Castrol Mustang. The ambient temperature didn't exceed 32.9 degrees, meaning Randle could continue under the revised driver welfare rules.
The final day of the betr Darwin Triple Crown begins with Boost Mobile Qualifying at 10:45am local time/11:15am AEST.
