Unwell Brodie Kostecki set to race after qualifying ordeal
Kostecki was sick in his car en route to Race 4 pole in qualifying
DJR star rebounded to qualify second for Friday race
Brodie Kostecki is set to line up from pole position for Thursday's Melbourne SuperSprint opener following a brave effort in Boost Mobile Qualifying.
The Shell V-Power Racing Team star claimed Race 4 pole, before attention quickly turned to Kostecki hurriedly getting out of his car.
It was later revealed that the 2023 Supercars driver had been sick in the car, with Kostecki seen with vomit on his overalls.
Dick Johnson Racing crew quickly cleaned the interior of the car before Kostecki got back in for Race 5 qualifying.
In a display of Kostecki's willpower, the 2024 Bathurst winner returned to qualify second, denied a miracle pole sweep by Penrite Racing rival Matt Payne by just 0.03s.
DJR CEO Megan Foster told Supercars.com: "He's recovering well, we expect him to be fully ready to go come the start of Race 4, where he'll start from pole.
"It was a great effort, and he's done well to get that far, and to put it on pole and P2 for Race 5 tomorrow."
Kostecki sits fifth in the drivers' championship, having raced to finishes of 10th, second and 12th at last month's DUNLOP Sydney 500.
The 28-year-old is also aiming for his second Larry Perkins Trophy win, after winning two of four races at Albert Park in 2023.
The 19-lap Race 4 will commence at 5:00pm local time.
