Broc Feeney admits "we were just slow" in Bathurst

Feeney refuses to lay total blame on brake issues
Red Bull Ampol Racing star Broc Feeney hasn't laid total blame on his tough Bathurst run on brake issues, admitting “we were just slow.”
The Feeney/Nick Percat Ford raced to 11th in Sunday’s Repco Bathurst 1000, nine positions behind the sister Will Brown/Scott Pye car.
Race day offered hope for the #88 Red Bull Ampol Ford after Triple Eight boss Jamie Whincup claimed the team was “throwing the kitchen sink” at the Mustang.
The #88 Ford's practice results read 19th, 22nd, 17th, ninth, 22nd and 21st. Feeney was only 12th in Friday qualifying, with Brown fourth.
Come race day, and neither Feeney nor Percat could reel in a top 10 finish, in what was another tough Ryco Enduro Cup campaign for the young Queenslander.
“[The speed] wasn’t there, that’s for sure,” Feeney told Supercars’ Equip Super Cool Down Lap podcast.
“I probably thought we were a bit better than what we were today to be honest.
“We tried focusing on our race car for most of the weekend, but [it’s a] bit of a head-scratcher.”
Brake feel was a constant issue for the #88, while an engine change was swung on Saturday.
In a team release, Percat revealed: “In my last stint, something happened with the front brake pads and basically felt like I had no front brakes at all."
Feeney, however, wasn’t hiding behind the brake issues, saying: “I’m sure everyone up and down pit lane had brake issues, it’s a category problem at the moment.
“You saw a lot of people changing brakes today. I don’t think our issues are all because of that. We were just slow.”
Feeney heads into the Finals Series second in the standings.
