Will Brown to review move that caused costly Kai Allen clash
Brown recovered to fifth after early collision dropped him to last
Allen jumped from 10th to sixth in points with podium
Will Brown admits he needs to “stop screwing up” in his bid to make the Semi Final, following a rollercoaster Saturday on the Gold Coast.
The reigning champion crashed out of the Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout, before being sent a spin by Kai Allen and down to last in the early laps of the race.
Brown recovered to fifth, and heads into Sunday 87 points clear of the cut-line. It was a net gain, Brown leaving Bathurst 57 points clear.
Per commentator Mark Skaife, Allen was a “punching bag” in Bathurst, having copped hits from Brown, Brodie Kostecki and Jack Le Brocq.
In the lead-up to the weekend, Allen held his own talking to media, putting retribution on the menu.
When asked post-race if Allen’s hit on Saturday was a “square-up,” Brown instead pointed the finger at himself.
“Maybe, you’ve got to respect it if it was, good on him. It is what it is,” replied Brown, who has two podiums in his last 13 starts.
“I probably moved a little bit under brakes, I went to cover down there, it darts left, I moved when we were braking, have to review that.
“It was cool to recover from there, when we went down to [23rd], these Finals hopes aren’t looking really good.
“I’ve just got to stop screwing up, I’m disappointed in myself, made a mistake at Bathurst which hurt us, made a mistake in the Shootout.
“It’s that wild out there, I think I had 20 ‘oh shit’ moments."
Allen jumped from 10th to sixth in the standings heading into Sunday, with Penrite Racing teammate Matt Payne second in points and 10th on Saturday after a penalty.
