Supercars is mourning the loss of long-time motorsport figure Jeff Mattner, who passed away peacefully this week.
A respected and well-known identity across Australian and international race paddocks, Jeff’s contribution to the sport spanned more than three decades. He held senior roles with some of the biggest motorsport events in the country, including the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix in Adelaide, the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans, and more than 20 years at the helm of motorsport operations for the Adelaide 500 – formerly the Clipsal and Superloop 500.
In recognition of his outstanding service, Jeff was awarded the prestigious Motorsport Australia Presidential Citation in 2023 – a tribute to his lasting impact on the industry and the many people he mentored and inspired along the way.
Adelaide Grand Final organisers paid tribute to Jeff as “a long-time motorsport identity around the race paddocks of the world, including as Motorsport Manager for the Adelaide Grand Prix years and for the Adelaide 500 for two decades. He’ll be remembered and loved both as a tough nut and mentor to many.”
Supercars CEO Shane Howard remembered Jeff as a passionate, loyal and much-loved character in the motorsport community.
“Very sad news with the passing of Jeff Mattner,” Howard said. “What an incredible man. His dedication to motorsport was second to none, he lived an amazing life with a sense of fun and we will all miss him enormously. An absolute legend.”
Jeff’s legacy lives on through the events he helped shape and the many people in Australian motorsport who were lucky enough to work alongside him.
Supercars extends its deepest condolences to Jeff’s family, friends and colleagues at this difficult time.
