Penrite Racing move to third in Live Pit Lane after second for Matt Payne on Sunday
Erebus Motorsport sink to last after tough weekend and engine failure for Cooper Murray
Team 18 also jump ahead of PremiAir Racing into eighth
Penrite Racing are the big winners in the Supercars teams' championship following the weekend's Bosch Power Tools Perth Super 440.
A third-consecutive Sunday top two finish for Matt Payne saw Penrite Racing vault ahead of Walkinshaw Andretti United into third in the teams' standings, despite a breakthrough win for Ryan Wood to open the weekend.
It was another strong weekend for the Kiwi, who claimed also claimed finishes of fifth and sixth on Saturday to maintain third in the chase for the Repco Sprint Cup.
There was also strong speed shown by rookie Kai Allen, however Penrite Racing team principal David Cauchi believes there were stronger results left on the table despite moving up pit lane for Darwin.
“The speed was there but we didn’t execute well enough. We had good car pace, which was a positive after a couple of tough years in Perth," Cauchi said in a Ford Performance release.
“Overall, we managed to collect a good haul of points for the weekend. But we had a couple sessions where we didn’t execute as well as should, so we left some on the table.
“Matt Payne is still third in the championship and we did well to jump WAU for third in the teams’ points to move up the pit lane for Darwin.
“It will be interesting at Darwin to see how the cars perform, but we’ve shown we have speed at every circuit so there’s no reason we won’t continue that.”
The big loser out of the weekend was Erebus Motorsport, whose torrid start to 2025 sunk to a new low in Perth as they slipped to last in the teams' standings, a stark contrast to their championship and Bathurst wins in the last two seasons.
James Courtney's shock podium on Sunday saw Blanchard Racing Team move to 11th in the teams' standings, whilst a mechanical retirement for Cooper Murray on Sunday sealed Erebus' spot in last.
Elsewhere, Team 18 were another team to gain positions in the teams' championship, benefitting from a 30-point penalty for PremiAir Racing on Saturday to jump ahead in the live pit lane order.
However, it could've been a larger jump for the team that is set to takeover as GM's homologation team in 2026, as a strong run for Anton De Pasquale came undone late on Sunday.
"We're a little bit gutted we didn't jump up another one, which we should've done because we should've been well in front of Brad Jones," said Adrian Burgess, Team 18 Team Principal, on Supercars' Cool Down Lap podcast.
"Poor old Anton was driving a cracking race, and we lost the alternator on lap 44, so we were managing an ever-declining battery situation.
"If the Safety Car hadn't have come, we would have survived, but the thing just died two laps from home, and we wobbled home and went from sixth to 18th in two laps, so gutted for that, but there's plenty of good stuff."
The 2025 Repco Supercars Championship continues at the betr Darwin Triple Crown from June 20-22. Tickets for the event are on sale now.
