  • NASCAR star Kyle Larson wants shot at "bucket list" Adelaide start

  • 2021 Cup Series champion indicated Bathurst 1000 interest last year

  • 2025 Adelaide round has no conflict with NASCAR finale

NASCAR star Kyle Larson has set his sights on a 'bucket list"'Supercars start in Adelaide.

The 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion last year indicated he would one day be keen to compete in the Bathurst 1000, Supercars' showpiece event.

Larson is regarded as one of the most versatile drivers in world motorsport, and is a 31-time Cup race winner.

The American will make a second attempt at the Indianapolis 500 next month, and participated in the open test on Thursday (AEST), ending up 11th with a best speed of 223.430mph.

An Adelaide cameo is conceivable for Larson, given the 2025 Cup Series finale at Phoenix is scheduled for November 2, four weeks before the bp Adelaide Grand Final on November 27-30.

Speaking to media in Indianapolis, when asked what was next on his racing bucket list, Larson said: "It's really tough to run big races, because I'm racing 54 weekends of the year.

"One that stands out to me, and hopefully I can put it together down the road, is I'd like to run a Supercar, in particular in Adelaide.

"It's their finale, they have a sprint car track in the city as well, so I could do both.

"I would like to do that. There's been some conversations. We'll see where it goes. For right now, it's hard to look that far ahead, Indy is a big deal right now, and we're ingrained in the Cup season."

Last year, the Hendrick Motorsports driver said: “I enjoy doing what I get to do… I would run the majority of the [NASCAR] Cup schedule for sure.

"I guess there’s other series in other countries maybe I could go run. Like, a V8 Supercar would be kind of cool, getting to do Bathurst would be neat.

“But there’s just conflicts, there’s not enough days in the year. There’s big races on the same weekends.”

Two-time Cup Series champion Busch was reportedly close to a deal to race at last year's Adelaide 500.

“I would have loved to see how Kyle Busch went last year in the Supercar,” van Gisbergen said in February.

“It would have been very difficult, but I’m sure if he took it seriously he would have done really well. Hopefully that happens this year.

“There’s talks actually Kyle Larson might go and do it. Yeah, I’d Love to help them if they have any questions. I’d be really interested to see how they went.”

The 2025 Supercars season will resume in Tasmania on May 9-11. International viewers can watch the action with SuperView.
