David Reynolds, Nick Percat poke fun at title tension in Adelaide
One of Feeney, Mostert, Brown or Allen will win 2025 Supercars title
Drivers warned of significant fines for manipulating races
David Reynolds and Nick Percat have stoked the fire ahead of this weekend's bp Adelaide Grand Final, where a champion will be crowned.
One of Broc Feeney, Chaz Mostert, Will Brown or Kai Allen will claim the 2025 Repco Supercars Championship, in the first season using The Finals format.
While the focus will be on the top four, there are 21 other drivers fighting for glory, from trophies to Friday’s $50,000 cash prize.
Headlines in the lead-up to the Grand Final have been dominated by remarks over Finals tension, from Mostert’s Triple Eight jibe to Feeney claiming it as the “biggest week” of his life.
Speaking to media on Tuesday, 2016 Adelaide winner Percat and 2017 Bathurst champion Reynolds joked they had little care towards the title fight.
“We're not in it and [Anton De Pasquale] my teammate's not in it either. And frankly, we couldn't care who's in it, if I'm not in it. Stuff the rest,” Reynolds said.
The driver with the most points at the end of the weekend will win the championship, but they’ll have to get through three races and race the rest of the field to get there.
The retiring Percat poked fun at his own situation, quipping: "I'm the same. If I happen to go up the inside of someone who's in the championship hunt and we crash, that's racing.
“And to be honest, if I end up with a huge fine like that, you'll probably never see me again, because the only way you pay is if you race again.
“Take my licence.”
The winner of Friday’s sprint will take home $50,000. Chasing his first win since October 2023, and his first win in Adelaide, Reynolds suggested he would take risks if the win presented itself.
“When you think about it, we actually don't need any more incentive,” Reynolds said of the Friday race.
"When we go out there, our egos are big enough, we're silly enough, we try as hard as we can. Say if we're a car length apart going to the last corners for the win, like it might give you the extra incentive."
Track action in Adelaide commences on Thursday.
