Broc Feeney plays down Brodie Kostecki comments regarding parity
Supercars conducted barometric engine testing between Bend and Bathurst
Kostecki led Mustang podium sweep at The Bend after Feeney troubles
Championship leader Broc Feeney isn’t reading too much into comments from Ford rival Brodie Kostecki regarding parity.
Kostecki has been central to Ford's parity push since switching an Erebus Motorsport Camaro for a Dick Johnson Racing Mustang for 2025.
Aerodynamic changes were made to the Mustang package before The Bend, with Kostecki duly going on to lead an all-Mustang podium.
Supercars also conducted barometric engine testing to determine if atmospheric pressure differences affect Ford and Chevrolet engines differently.
The 2023 Supercars champion has been vocal in the media and his own podcast, having experienced Gen3 machinery from both sides. While happy work was being done, Kostecki claimed the jury was still out over the aero changes, and stressed engine testing remained vital.
In Bathurst on Thursday, cars took to the track for Practice 1 in the engine specification they ran at The Bend. Finding will be presented to homologation teams after Practice 1.
When asked by Supercars.com about Kostecki’s comments at a media call in Bathurst, current Camaro driver Feeney was quick to point the most recent result.
"I mean, they went pretty well at The Bend,” Feeney quipped.
“For us, we're just focused on what we need to do. We got a pole position at The Bend, had really good race pace, but couldn't convert.
“We've been fast here the last couple of years and so have they. I look forward to trying to go and win a race.”
Feeney’s Bend campaign was undone by a refuelling disaster, with the pole-winning Triple Eight Camaro crossing the line a distant 19th. It hurt Feeney on the scoreboard, with closest rivals Matt Payne and Will Brown within striking distance of claiming top seed honours for the Elimination Final on the Gold Coast.
When asked if there were any fears over what happened at The Bend, Feeney said: “Nah, I haven't had any nightmares.
"Obviously was pretty disappointed after that, but I'm sure the team sort of made a couple of changes to the process to make sure that won't happen again.
"I think we lost 170 points or something like that in one race, which is pretty crazy to think the year that we've had. We had over 320 points and it's back to 150.
“It all resets after this round. It shows how important The Finals is gonna be, not to have any mistakes. As I said, you have a mistake like that in The Finals and, and you pack your bags and you go home. So we'll be making sure we don't have any more issues like that."
Track action in Bathurst commenced on Thursday, with Feeney fifth and Kostecki 20th in Practice.
