Erebus Motorsport fans have rallied around Dunlop Super3 Series recruit Reef McCarthy with a fundraiser opportunity.

McCarthy, who joined the Erebus Academy in June, is currently seeking a naming rights sponsor to support his drive at this year’s Repco Bathurst 1000.

Erebus’ online fan group, the Erebus Motorsport Racing Army, is now helping the 17-year-old with his appeal.

Using the group’s Facebook community of almost 7000 followers, fans have kickstarted a campaign to financially assist the young driver.

Administrators of the online fanpage, Rowan Measday and Lisa Pears, have created a GoFundMe page for McCarthy.

The names of the generous donors are set to feature on the bonnet of McCarthy’s #61 Falcon for the remainder of the year.

McCarthy was humbled by the support of not only the Erebus Academy, but its generous supporter group.

“The Erebus Racing Army is a great little community and they’re really rallying behind me, to try and make sure I get to every race this year,” he said.

“It’s awesome that the members don’t just support the main game drivers, they also support the potential future drivers of the team.

“I am so grateful to them all for supporting me; we haven’t been able to get much funding this year, so this sort of support is super important.”

McCarthy impressed with finishes of fifth and fourth in his rookie outing at the Repco Mt Panorama 500 in February.

However, unless he could source the necessary funds, McCarthy will be unable to complete the season.

Reef’s father Scott put his prized 1970 Ford XW GT Falcon up for sale in April, in order to support his son’s racing journey.

McCarthy featured in the Townsville doubleheader and claimed his first Super3 top three finish in the opening sprint race.

His form continued with three more top three finishes in the remaining races.

Father Scott thanked fans for their support of his son.

“Everyone involved with Erebus has been so generous and so supportive. We really are overwhelmed by how incredible the team is,” McCarthy senior said.

“It’s very exciting that the Erebus Motorsport Racing Army are putting together this GoFundMe campaign for Reef, to help raise some funds for the remainder of the season.”

“This is a really big deal for us, and we hope to reward everyone that’s supporting us with some results in the back half of the year.”

Erebus Motorsport will also offer one donor a hot lap with McCarthy in one of the team’s race cars. Every $5.00 donated will equate to one entry.

McCarthy is set to resume the season at Winton on October 2-3.
