Dragon Motor Racing and Image Racing has announced former Supercars regular Jack Perkins will lead the team’s Dunlop Series campaign in 2017.

The teams have joined forces for the season to run two former Garry Rogers Motorsport prepared Holden Commodores raced by James Golding and Richard Muscat last year.

Perkins returns to the car he drove in the 2013 Supercars Championship alongside Scott McLaughlin in the Pirtek Enduro Cup, when the pair record top ten finishes at Sandown and Bathurst.

“I’m really excited to be back in the Dunlop Series and it will be great to get back in the GRM car I shared with Scotty,” Perkins told Supercars.com.

“When I heard there was an opportunity to step back into car 33 I rang Terry (Wyhoon – team owner) and asked him how we can make it happen. Scotty and I logged more than 10,000kms testing the Prototype cars of the future, ended up great mates, and then we got to drive together in 2013”.

Team owners Wyhoon (Image Racing) and Tony Klein (Dragon Motor Racing) are confident they will see success in the Series this year.

“We have two very competitive cars built by GRM, a lead driver who has significant experience and success in Supercars in Jack Perkins, and the Image Racing team that brings over 10 years’ experience in Supercars,” Klein said. “2017 seems to be the year when everything is coming together for us.”

Wyhoon said the focus was on building the right team to move forward.

“When our teams started to plan for the 2017 campaign we were committed to putting together the right team, securing the best technical support and signing the best drivers,” Wyhoon said. “We are 100 per cent on track for the opening Clipsal 500 event in Adelaide and looking forward to the entire season.”

Perkins made his debut into the second tier development category in 2006 with Perkins Engineering.

More recently he has been an endurance race specialist with Garry Rogers Motorsport and the Holden Racing Team, earning his first Supercars race win in with James Courtney at the Castrol Gold Coast 600 in 2015. Perkins will pair with Courtney again in this year’s Pirtek Enduro Cup.

The Supercars Dunlop Series will be back on-track at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide, March 2-5.
