Sharper focus on top two with revised 2025 Supercars points
Revised point system could encourage drivers to take more risks
Every point crucial as drivers aim to secure a Finals Series berth
The Repco Supercars Championship’s refined points system in 2025 has been aimed at enhancing the competition while ensuring drivers in the top positions can claim the biggest haul of points.
Confirmed in recent weeks, the 2025 points system will see an evolution of last year’s system, with points weighted to race lengths.
The 2025 season, which will be contested in 34 races across 13 rounds, will see nine different point systems deployed across the year.
Not including fastest lap bonus points, a maximum of 300 points will still be on offer across the weekend, but drivers in first and second will have a greater reward.
The revised point system could encourage drivers to take more risks as they chase race wins, with every point crucial as drivers aim to finish in the top 10 to secure a Finals Series berth.
Crucially, the new systems have the potential to be less forgiving to drivers who slip up, given their rivals could bank big points if they finish in the top two.
In 2025, there will be six different weekend points systems deployed, as evidenced below.
The 100km Friday sprint races in Sydney and Townsville will offer 60 points for the winner, while the 200km races will offer 120 points.
The new-for-2025 Super 440 format will see 120km races offer 80 points for the win, and 240 in the 200km Sunday race.
The four-race Grand Prix weekend still offers 75 points per race for the winner, but the points from third down have been revised.
The Tailem Bend and Bathurst enduros will also offer 300 points for first and 276 for second, but points from third down have also been revised.
The two-race format will return for the first two Finals rounds at the Gold Coast and Sandown, offering 150 for the win and 138 for second. However, points have been reduced year-on-year from third down.
Then, there’s the radical new Adelaide Grand Final format, where the 100km sprint will offer 50 points to the winner, before the showpiece 250km races offer 125 points. There, the 2025 Repco Supercars Champion will be crowned.
The 2025 Repco Supercars Championship calendar features a spectacular 13-round schedule and begins in Sydney on February 21-23. Tickets are on sale now.
