PremiAir Racing retains Golding for 2023

James Golding has signed a contract extension with PremiAir Racing for 2023, the team has confirmed.

Golding and Tim Slade will form PremiAir Racing's line-up for the first season of Gen3.

Peter Xiberras' fledgling squad will campaign two Chevrolet Camaros in 2023.

Xiberras called up Golding mid-season after Garry Jacobson parted ways with the team in June.

Golding has been a revelation for the young team, and has regularly threatened the top 10.

The 26-year-old scored his first top 10 finish in Subway colours at Sandown in August.

He just missed out on a Bathurst top 10, and qualified for the Sunday Shootout on the Gold Coast last Sunday.

The race went pear-shaped, with Golding triggering a pile-up at the beach chicane after clouting a tyre bundle.

Regardless, the Arundel-based team had seen enough to secure Golding for his first full season since 2019.

Team owner Xiberras told Supercars.com that he would Golding find his way at his own pace.

After six rounds, Xiberras was delighted with how the 26-year-old has performed.

“Despite being thrown in the deep end part-way through a highly competitive Supercars season, Jimmy has held his own and worked exceptionally well with our team to deliver increasingly improved results,” Xiberras said.

“We have greatly enjoyed working with Jimmy over the second half of the 2022 season and to us it was a no-brainer to keep him on for 2023.

"I know everyone at PremiAir Racing is very pleased that he will be continuing on with us for the new season.”

PremiAir Racing Team Principal Matt Cook added: “There is no arguing the fact that Jimmy is talented behind the wheel and with what he has been able to deliver in a baptism of fire and in our older car no less.

“We are truly excited to see what we can do together across an entire season, and with new Gen3 equipment to boot.”

Golding says he has embraced the challenge of having to perform after joining mid-season.

“Since joining the team halfway through the season, it has been a big challenge for sure but one that I have really enjoyed,” Golding said.

“It has been great working with the whole team and improving our performance as the year has progressed.

“I want to thank Peter and Matt for the opportunity they have given me to not only prove myself, but also trust me to lead the team in the right direction.

"I also want to thank everyone who played an important role in my return to Supercars and have ultimately led me to this opportunity.

"I thank my family, friends, and sponsors for their tremendous support on what was a difficult time away from full-time Supercars racing.

Golding and PremiAir's 2022 campaigns will conclude in Adelaide on December 1-4.
