Pocket rocket racer to make 12 Hour debut
A pint-sized, turbocharged KTM car will make its Bathurst 12 Hour debut this May.
A KTM X-Bow GT2 has been entered in the upcoming LIQUI MOLY Bathurst 12 Hour.
The 1000kg, 600hp GT2-specification car has been entered by M Motorsport and Vantage Racing.
Supercars veteran and 2013 Super2 champion Dale Wood headlines the four-strong driver line-up.
Carrera Cup driver Wood will be joined by brother Glen, David Crampton and Trent Harrison.
KTM and M Motorsport team are chasing their second 12 Hour class victory.
An M Motorsport KTM X-Bow claimed GT4 honours in 2019 with Glen Wood, Dean Lillie, Elliott Barbour and Justin McMillan.
The X-Bow GT2 has been designed around the FIA's new GT2 regulations, and will run in the 12 Hour's Invitational class.
The car is powered by a turbocharged, 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine sourced from Audi.
The car made its Australian racing debut earlier this year at Sydney Motorsport Park.
Crampton and Harrison steered the car to third outright in the Sydney 4 Hour GT race.
Team owner McMillan is keen to see the new car tackle its biggest challenge to date.
He explained the entry has also received factory KTM support.
"It's a strong car and should be very competitive," he said.
The 2019 KTM, which won its class
"We're in the Invitational class because there's only one of them, but it will go well.
"The car is perfect for this kind of race and they already have had a lot of success running in Creventic races over a long distance.
“Glen, Dale, Trent and Dave are all driving together for the first time but it's a strong line-up.
"We didn't have many spares for the car here, so we approached KTM for some assistance with a spares package for the 12 Hour.
“They assisted greatly. They're keen to see it run.
"The car gives away downforce to GT3 cars but it will be quicker in a straight line. It's going to be interesting to see how it goes.”
This year’s 12 Hour will be held across May 13-15.
