In his efforts to shape the next generation of racers, Nick Percat wants to mentor one of his karters into Supercars.
The Matt Stone Racing driver owns JND Racing, the karting team he launched last year.
Over time, Percat has developed an elite-level program that goes beyond the track, helping young drivers gain personal skills required to make a career out of motorsport.
Percat was joined by friends and fellow karters Jake Spencer and Daniel Rochford in forming JND Racing. Reigning X30 National Champion Brad Jenner also joined as lead driver coach.
In quick time, JND Racing has gained a reputation as one of the premier programs for young karting talent in Australia.
A veteran of over 350 Supercars races, Percat has tried to model JND Racing on a Supercars team, teaching media skills, nutrition and fitness.
When asked when he will bring an end to his Supercars career on the latest Drivers Only podcast, Percat pivoted to how he can help one of his own reach the very top.
“My honest dream, with the JND thing, is to mentor a kid all the way through,” Percat said.
“Why not? If I can put them in the right place in the junior categories, and then launch in.
“I think that would be very cool.”
Percat is keen to helping young drivers develop, having wanted to own a karting team since he was 15 years old.
Last year, Percat struck a deal for JND to become a factory-supported BirelART operation.
When he launched JND, he stated: “We want to give kids the opportunity to be in contact with the right people in Europe. It's a passion of mine, that side of the business.
"For us, it's not all about the karting – it's about providing the guidance they need to get to Supercars, IndyCar, F1, whatever they want to do."
The new Drivers Only episode will be released Friday July 25 via Supercars’ channels and the Listnr platform.
