The grandson of Supercars Hall of Famer Ian Geoghegan, 19-year-old Max, has made his debut behind the wheel of a race car.

Max drove a Hyundai Excel Series car at the Excel Cup at Queensland Raceway last weekend, under the guidance of Supercars young gun Broc Feeney.

Feeney stepped into a training role for close friend Geoghegan, assisting with car setup and coaching across the weekend.

  • "First training on Thursday thanks to @norwellmotorplex and practice on Friday.

"Qualified 5th. Finished P6 in Race 1, worked up to P3 in Race 2, after a little helped excursion at T1.

"3rd again in Race 3, and came home 1st in Race 4. Finished 2nd overall for the weekend.

"A massive thank you to @brocfeeney93 and Feen for their amazing help all weekend. Thanks to my family and to all my friends for their support.

"Amazing to have so much support across the weekend. Off to SMP next weekend to do it all again!"

Max’s grandfather Ian was the first driver to win the Australian Touring Car Championship five times: in 1964, 1966, 1967, 1968 and 1969.

The late Hall of Famer won the 1973 Bathurst 1000 aboard a Falcon GT, ahead of fellow Supercars legend Allan Moffat.

Max, the son of Ian’s second son Chris, will continue his racing career at Sydney Motorsport Park this weekend.
