The Castrol Townsville 500, running from July 4-6, is set to be one of the year's biggest V8 Supercars events, with new features like the Super Top adding to the excitement of the always intense racing.

So who better to celebratethe event than two of the biggest names in Australian Motorsport?

Twenty years on from their Bathurst 1000 win together, Dick Johnson and John Bowe reunite for a breakfast event on June 3 to kick offa month of build-up to the Townsville V8 Supercars event for their first speaking engagement together.

The two - who were dominant in touring car racing in the late 1980s and early '90s -will also be guests at a public function on Monday June 2, at the Reid Park Pit Complex for V8 Supercars supporters.

"JB and I are keen to come up a month before the event to meet Townsville race fans," Johnson said.

"Our team commitments (on race weekends) don't allow us much time to meet the fans, so we're really looking forward to visiting at a quieter time - we might even get a spot of fishing in!"

Bowe promised the evening would be full of old stories.

"Given the time we've spent together, Dick and I have more than a million stories to share," he said.

"For me, it was the best time of my V8 career. For Dick I'm not so sure - don't ask him that, he never misses the chance to tell another unfavourable yarn about me!"

Bowe drove for Johnson's DJR team for 11 seasons and continues to race - making his count 43 years in motor racing. Johnson's racing career ran from 1970-2000, though he is still involved running his own team with promising up-and-comers Scott Pye and David Wall.

Both are V8 Supercars Hall of Fame inductees, Johnson having won five Australian Touring Car Championshipsas well as three Bathurst 1000s - two with Bowe. Meanwhile, 'JB' has two Bathurst 1000 victories to his name, an Australian Touring Car Championship and this year, his first International Bathurst 12 Hour race win (with Craig Lowndes in a Ferrari GT3).
